š Pizza Parties, Deep Cleans & Repeat Customers: How This Senior Moving Company Grows
Moving seniors is just the start - hereās how one business became the go-to partner for senior living communities.

Happy Friday!
In this weekās Behind the Business feature, weāre highlighting Every Step Seniors, a Cleveland-based company thatās built something rare in local services:
A referral-driven business that thrives on deep partnerships, repeat clients, and a commitment to serving people during a vulnerable time in life.
We spoke with the owner about how they carved out this niche, the challenges of seasonality, and how a grassroots growth strategy can scaleāwhen done right.
Letās get into it š
š Tell us a little about your businessāwhat do you do, and how did you get started?
I own a senior moving and downsizing company called Every Step Seniors.
We specifically focus on helping senior citizens move to senior living communities, which includes independent living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing.
We offer a number of services to streamline the process, including our āPack, Move & Setupā package, as well as home cleanouts, donations and junk removal services.
I started the company 2.5 years ago when my wife worked for a senior living community and realized there was a gap in service for seniors who need to move and settle up their home. We offer our comprehensive, premium service at a competitive price.
š¤ Whatās been your most effective marketing strategy?
Working directly with senior communities as referral sources.
We view them as partnerships and servicing their needs are equally important to the needs of the client they refer us. This has led to strong relationships and repeat business.
š How do you generate most of your leads?
Word of mouth and referral sources we partner with.
š¦ How do you turn one-time customers into repeat clients?
Offering additional services after their move to help them clear out their home. We also have repeat customers when someone needs a āroom transferā within a facility when a higher level of care is necessary.
š Have you added new services or upsells to increase revenue?
Yes, we now offer deep cleaning as part of our home cleanout service. This allows clients to have a one-stop shop and be list ready once we are completed.
š” Whatās your approach to marketing and advertising?
We have relied on a grassroots, relationship building approach. We put on events for our facility partners, like our āSpring Cleaningā event. We will soon look to upgrade our website and online presence.
āļø Whatās been the biggest financial challenge, and how did you overcome it?
Our business is seasonal and we must plan accordingly for the harsh Cleveland winters. Budgeting with a strong safety net is very important for our business. Also, bootstrapping the company and stabilizing the financials was a big challenge in the first two years of business. We overcame it with strategic planning and not breaking our ārulesā around savings.
š Whatās been the best investment youāve made in your business that directly led to growth?
Investing in new trucks to increase our capacity to complete jobs and grow our team. Also searching for improvements in operational efficiency by purchasing equipment that allows us to offer our services in the most efficient way possible.
š¬ One piece of advice for other home service business owners?
Always treat the customer in front of you as your most important sales opportunity. Teach your team to provide exemplary service and always provide positive feedback back to the team. Invest in them so they will invest in you.
š£ Where can people find you online?
š www.everystepseniors.com
š² @everystepseniors on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn
š Most unconventional way youāve gotten new customers?
We have started monthly pizza parties for our senior living communities to give thanks for their partnership and show them we are committed to our relationship beyond the transaction of referrals. It has certainly helped to keep us top of mind.
š§° One underrated tool thatās helped your business grow?
Fieldpulse.
Itās a field management software that helps us manage jobs, internal comms, and all the moving parts of a complex service business.
Itās been a total game-changer.
Big thanks to the team at Every Step Seniors (check them out here ā www.everystepseniors.com) for sharing the behind-the-scenes of their business.
Thereās a lot in here:
ā”ļø Build relationships, not just a customer list
ā”ļø Invest in tools and teams
ā”ļø Stay consistent, even when the weather isnāt
