How Local Businesses Like Yours Are Generating 30+ Leads a Month

A simple, proven system to get more—and better—leads.

Welcome to the Local Ad Man Newsletter

Hey there. Happy spring. If you’re like me, you have ambitious Q2 goals set for yourself. So, let’s get right into it.

If there’s one question I hear more than any other, it’s this:

“How do I get more leads for my business?”

Anonymous business owners (everywhere)

Not just more, but better leads - people who are ready to buy, who would happily pay you for your product or service, not just kicking tires.

Let me show you how we approach this for our clients. No fluff. Just a 3-part system you can implement starting today.

We’ll use a local service business as an example. If that’s not you, don’t worry - this strategy works for any service based business (any products, too).

✅ Part 1: Rank Where It Matters (Local SEO)

Why it works:
70% of people looking for local services start on Google (even in the AI era). And they trust what they find in the map pack (those top 3 listings you see near the map).

How to do it:

  • Claim and fully fill out your Google Business Profile

  • Get consistent 5-star reviews (ask every happy customer)

  • Add photos, services, and weekly posts

  • Make sure your Name, Address, Phone (NAP) is consistent across all directories (Yelp, Angi, BBB, Mapquest (yes, that Mapquest), etc.)

Pro tip: Search “[your service] near me” and see who ranks. Study what they’re doing right.

You’ll see Local Service Ads at the top, and local SEO results underneath. Both are extremely effective, but with different costs / benefits.

✅ Part 2: Use Ads That Target Intent

Why it works:
Most local businesses waste money on broad ads that don’t convert. The magic happens when you reach people actively searching for what you do.

How to do it:

  • Start with Google Search Ads targeting specific terms like:

    • “emergency plumber in [city]”

    • “best [service] near me”

  • Use call-only ads if your leads come in by phone

  • Set up conversion tracking (calls, forms, bookings)

Pro tip: Don’t send ad traffic to your homepage. Create a specific landing page for each service you advertise.

Traditional Google Ads are cheaper than LSAs and high converting (if done right)

✅ Part 3: Build Pages That Convert

Why it works:
Your website is your storefront. If it’s slow, confusing, or generic, you’re losing leads. Fast.

How to do it:

  • Use one clear call to action (not 6)

  • Add trust signals: reviews, certifications, testimonials

  • Cut the fluff—explain what you do, who it’s for, and why it’s better

  • Make mobile speed a priority (use PageSpeed Insights to test yours)

Pro tip: Use a scheduling tool (like Calendly or Square Appointments) to make it easy for people to take the next step.

🛠 Bonus: Small Tweaks That Make a Big Impact

  • Add a live chat or chatbot to your site

  • Follow up with every missed call

  • Text leads within 5 minutes—response rates go way up

  • Use a simple CRM to keep track of every lead

🎰 PS - There’s 3 More Steps (advanced)

The best stratey is to start with the above. You can transform your business getting 2/3 of them right. If you want the rest of the strategy, comment “STRATEGY” and we’ll send you the rest that covers:

  • Social media ads (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)

  • Short form content (IG Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts)

  • Email marketing (next level - where you really start pulling in the $$$)

If you implement even half of this, you’ll be way ahead of most local businesses.

And if you want to see how your setup stacks up, I’m happy to offer insights—no pitch, no pressure. Just hit reply and say “send feedback.”
